Jyxo.cz is a history. We need to find a replacement for it. Using the http://www.alexa.com/topsites/countries/CZ I see following candidates:

 - Aukro.cz - auction portal, close cooperation with Heureka.cz
 - Zboží.cz - e-commerce SE by Seznam.cz, competitor to Heureka.cz
 - Firmy.cz - company catalogue by Seznam.cz
 - CSFD.cz - IMDB like catalogue
 - Mapy.cz - map service by Seznam.cz

Personaly I would go with Mapy.cz.
I agree with Pavel Franc. Mapy.cz is good replacement for czech users.
It seems like Jyxo.cz was a "general purpose" search engine.  Is that correct?  Do you consider the Seznam search plugin to also be "general purpose"?

What is your top suggestion?  Since we already ship Seznam, I would consider
removing Firmy.cz, Firmy.cz, and Mapy.cz from the list of choices in comment 0.  Perhaps we can go with Aukro.cz?  Any idea on how close they cooperate with
Heureka?

Yes. Google, Seznam and Jyxo are "general purpose" search engines.

They have common co-owner (Allegro group) and they propagate each other in their pages.

Well, it's quite a small world in the .cz search/portal space.  I guess then, it's up to you guys to tell us what you think is best.  

If Aukro and Heureka are both owned by Allegro, then I'd have to use the same argument and I used in comment 3 for Seznam and ask you to find something different.  

But, if you feel that the best user experience is with any of the ideas you have mentioned in Comment 0, then we should go with that.

Reading this bug, I don't see any actual resolution on what to implement. Did you guys do that outside of this bug?

I'm personally not sure we need to replace a 3rd general purpose search engine at all. We can just remove it. Also, in bug 603950, we offered to add bing, which would be general purpose, but that didn't get any feedback. Not a suggestion, just an offer.

Bing is not used in Czech at all. Aukro/Mapy would be more useful for our users.
I've been contacted directly by Monika from Allegro Group. I'm going to cooperate with her and prepare the search module for Firefox 5.

It's parameters where already approved by Mozilla stuff (Seth?) regarding the agreement between Mozilla and Allegro Group.

Before I review, I was wondering if there is any kind of agreement in place with Aukro. There's tracking attributes in place, and I'd like to understand what Aukro's privacy policy is as well as whether there is any formal or informal relationship in place.

Axel, the redirect only seems to occur if you link directly to the search URL. If you provide the attributes in the params, it returns results (e.g. http://mozilla.aukro.cz/listing.php/search?string=sony)

Hey folks, is this still an open item? I'm going to r- given there's no answer to comment #24. Given how long this has been idle, I was also wondering if this is still something that's desired.

The comment #21 is still valid: Yes, we (Mozilla.cz) still want to replace the Jyxo search engine with Aukro.cz (or any other partner engine).

According my emails from last year the people involved in the business discussion were: Seth, Harvey, Kev, Gregory Joost from our side and monika.latinova@allegrogroup.cz, lukas.krejza@allegrogroup.cz, radoslaw.gorka@allegro.pl, katarzyna.wagner@allegro.pl, tomasz.wasilewski@allegro.pl

And I have no idea why this discussion ended.
And there is a list of suggested search engines in the bug description. So if you (mozilla business department) are not happy with Alegro.pl as our new business partner we can always go with some of the Seznam.cz engines.

The only commercial relationship that Business Development manages is with Seznam.  If Mozilla.cz has recommendations for replacement of the Jyxo search engine, we support that change.

That's definitely an old conversation, and those conversations ended because we never reached a definitive agreement between both orgs. Per Joanne, that doesn't preclude making the change, but it wasn't clear to me whether the codes that were supplied in the patch were part of any existing arrangement. Since we do not have any existing arrangement, we should remove any tracking codes from the search engine, or at least get an explanation of what they are used for.

This issue is 2 years and 6 months old. We should discuss the situation of Czech sites with search engines again (services marked with + are included):
 
 + Google.cz - generic SE 
 + Seznam.cz - generic SE
 - Centrum.cz - generic SE, powered by google
 - Mapy.cz - map service by Seznam.cz
 - Firmy.cz - company catalog by Seznam.cz
 + Heureka.cz - product SE owned by Aukro.cz
 + Wikipedia - specific SE
 - Aukro.cz - auction portal
 - Csfd.cz - IMDB like catalogue
 - Bazos.cz - classifieds online   
 - Zbozi.cz - product SE by Seznam.cz

So we have two general SE, one e-commerce and one specific and we are looking for one/two e-commerce and one/none specific.

I would go with one service from Seznam.cz (Mapy.cz / Zbozi.cz) and one other (Bazos.cz / Aukro.cz).
