Like the title says, we're going to have product differentiation on the desktop dashboard with the 1.8 release, but not on the mobile dashboard. We should have it on there as well.

Yeah, I don't think we have a style for that yet, at least I didn't notice it on: http://people.mozilla.com/~chowse/drop/mozilla.com/input/style-mobile/index.html

I'll wait on assignment once chowse has a style associated to this.

Let's assign it to chowse then and throw it to one of us devs when we have a style, sound like a plan? :)

Summary: Missing product differentiation on mobile dashboard → Missing product/channel differentiation on mobile dashboard

Here's an example of how to change products/channels from the new mobile dashboard: http://people.mozilla.com/~chowse/drop/mozilla.com/input/mobile-dashboard/v1/01_Search_and_Settings.png Each row is actually a Fennec-style <select>. Changing a setting can either update the dashboard immediately (which may be needed if a change affects the tabs), or it could defer until switching to a different tab.

I like the approach! I'd prefer using the same style/design we currently have augmented with the new settings tab instead of the Fennec style/design though.

The finalized mock/prototype is now up on GitHub: http://chowse.github.com/voxpop-mobile-prototype/ https://github.com/chowse/voxpop-mobile-prototype/ Handing this one off to development. Feel free to use CSS from the prototype to update any existing components (tabs, message fed, etc.).

Chowse: Was there a style for paginating through messages that you had in mind?

Also, did you have the fonts handy for me?

(In reply to comment #10) > Chowse: Was there a style for paginating through messages that you had in mind? If possible, I'd like to try the infinite scroll approach (http://uxmovement.com/navigation/infinite-scrolling-best-practices). When you reach the bottom of the page on the Feed tab, it automatically loads and appends another page of content. I can provide spinner image that can appear at the bottom of the list while content loads. If this isn't reasonable, how about a Twitter-style 'More' button? Pressing this button will load another page of messages and append them to the current list. If THAT can't be done, I'll create a next/prev button like the current dashboard. Same style as these buttons: http://chowse.github.com/voxpop-mobile-prototype/message.html (In reply to comment #11) > Also, did you have the fonts handy for me? This dashboard only uses Droid Sans and Helvetica, which should be the native fonts on most devices viewing this dashboard. If you need a version of Meta Black or Meta Bold, which were used in the old dashboard, you can find copies here: https://www.mozilla.com/img/fonts/MetaWebPro-Black.woff https://www.mozilla.com/img/fonts/MetaWebPro-Bold.woff

Talked w/ Fred earlier, and we're going with the last option (next/prev buttons) for the moment. Here are the updates: http://chowse.github.com/voxpop-mobile-prototype/ https://github.com/chowse/voxpop-mobile-prototype/commit/9af4d6780d0c5e36b3fe677fc37a8d305f1c4bad

Thanks, Chris! I'll also file a bug for infinite scrolling, I really like that feature.

I'm putting this bug on hold for 3.4, as progress on the new Firefox dev process[1] is bound to require more urgent changes to the desktop app, and some tweaks to the mobile dashboard thereafter. [1] http://people.mozilla.com/~sayrer/2011/temp/process.html

The mobile dashboard was supposed to get accomplished in 3.4 -> 3.5 and now is pushed back to 4.0. Following up from comment #13 and #15, nothing was changed in the dashboard due to the new development process. So, we can with what chowse created in comment #13.
Will file a follow up bug to implement.
