Details

I cannot connect to irc.mozilla.org when I have an HTTP proxy configured in Firefox. The check box "Use this proxy for all protocols" is NOT checked.

Chatzilla should not use an HTTP proxy for IRC unless it has been told to do so. My squid proxy does not allow irc:// (or maybe ircs://?) connections.

Firefox version: 3.5.11
Chatzilla Version: 0.9.86
Unless you've configured ChatZilla otherwise (then it's your fault :P) it will use whatever proxy Firefox thinks is best for irc://host:port. AFAICR, this means it will use the SOCKS proxy if set, otherwise direct, though the automatic proxy configuration URL will override everything if enabled.

So, the things to check are:
 - Is the "Manual proxy configuration" selected in Firefox?
 - Is the SOCKS Host box EMPTY in Firefox?
 - Is the General > Proxy Type box EMPTY in ChatZilla? (Can be set Globally and on the network.)
James;

Ack - chalk this one up to user error. Somehow, I had a SOCKS5 proxy manually configured in there, but have no SOCKS5 proxy. I have /no idea/ how that happened.
