Reply or write windows come up normally white. Moving the mouse cursor over the compose space turns the background green. The next write or reply window opened will also have the compose space green. Restarting Thunderbird clears the color until the mouse cursor moves over the compose space. The color does not change if the mouse is not moved over the compose space. Moving the mouse cursor over any other part of the window does not change the color.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Write a new email or reply to an existing one.
2. Move mouse cursor over the compose space.
3.
Actual Results:  
The compose space turned from white to green.

Expected Results:  
The compose space should have stayed white.

I think everything is left in default. I have not set up any themes.
Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
HP Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @2.2 GHz, 2.99 GB ram

Yes, in -safe-mode the compose area still turns green.
Look at this green for a while and you'll soon see red :-).
Once green, new write or reply-to windows are also green.
Stop Thunderbird and restart in -safe-mode, same thing.
If the compose or reply window comes up with the mouse cursor in the compose area, it does not turn green until the mouse is moved.

They are usually bundeled with the driver. So can't point you to one specificaly.

I poked around the intel and hp web sites but didn't find anything.
Can you give me something to grep, er, web search for?

Just noticed, clicking on a link in a received email (not normally done) turns the link green, same green, the "visited" color. Any link? (bad but couldn't resist)

My initial question was to know that it might interfere - didn't meant for you to install any - sorry should have been clearer.

I think I did not make any changes to the installed or run software prior to this issue showing up except to update Thunderbird.

More strangeness:
I replied to an email and cc'd two others. I do not have "include message in reply" turned on. I cut and pasted the sender's message into the reply and the reply text area did not turn green when traversed by the mouse cursor. Sent that email.

Reply again. The original message got included in the second reply and when the mouse cursor moved over the text area, it turned green and the quoted original text turned blue. Killed that reply.

Another reply and no original message included and the text area turned green as before - once green new reply/write window text areas are also green.

are you still seeing this problem?
have you checked your windows display  settings?

I am still seeing this problem, now on Thunderbird 6.0.2.
I looked at Windows theme issues but could not find anything, although this problem started after updating Thunderbird without any other changes, including to windows settings.
There is an odd thing about this: highlighting text in any other program is dark blue (standard old windows) but in Thunderbird it's green, the same green that the text window changes to. When the window is green the text highlight is white.
It appears to me that Thunderbird is changing the Windows theme within the program. The advanced settings "feature" is way too complicated to try to figure out. I did make some changes long ago but have left the default settings for the last several versions. I don't remember what I changed. I got the impression on a subsequent update that all advanced config settings were reset with the update.

Could there be something not reset?
Is there a way to reset all advanced configs to defaults?

What fixed the problem was installing a new version of photoshop.
I was using CS2 and upgraded to CS5.
