thunderbird with 2 pop accounts:
office@domain.com
private@domain.com

name: John Doe
emailaddress: office@domain.com
password: xxxx

name: John Doe
emailaddress: private@domain.com
password: xxxx

then an office-internal imap server was set up to have an email archive.

email comes from the provider into thunderbird via pop3 then the user should drag it to the internal-archive via imap (or via filter).

one problem was after moving the mail to the internal-archive imap server if then a new mail was written it had the email-address john.doe@internal-archive.imap.server. so for the imap account the email-address has to be changed to office@domain.com and Copies&Folders were directed to the local folders.
(i had this setup for several accounts)

so i entered the following account-data for the internal-archive imap server:
name: John Doe
email: office@domain.com (instead of john.doe@internal-archive.imap.server)
pass: xxxx

then i corrected the configuration of imap and smtp account
user: john.doe
incoming: internal-archive.imap.server 143
outgoing: standard smtp

and after that -> ok and the global inbox disappeared.

it seemed that somehow thunderbird thought that i wanted to recycle the office@domain.com pop3 account to an office@domain.com imap account and completely screwed up the global inbox (it was not shown on the folder list anymore - everything else yes, but no inbox)

i could restore the inbox from the local-folders in the profile/Mail directory.

this happend 2 times.

greetings
karl.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. make 2 pop-accounts (possibly one will do it) with globl inbox
2. make 1 imap-account with the wizard with the same data as one pop-account
3. inbox lost
Actual Results:
inbox disappeared from the folder list

Expected Results:
create a new imap account besides the global inbox
Was there anything in Tools -> error console when this happens ?

so the inbox disapeared , but you still have 3 accounts right ?

yes, as i can remember the accounts were listed in the account-settings but in no folder view (All, unified ...) i could see the inbox-folder. i had to restore the thunderbird-profile directory on these 2 machines, so i've no output from the error console....
tried to reproduce it today with ff314 portable - didn't work. so this can be resolved.

anyway - if it helps: on the two computers where the inbox was lost smart folders were in use, a pop account and then an additional imap account (with the same email-address) was created with the wizard.
