It would be really great to have Personas highlighted in the "Get Add-ons" pane of the Add-on Manager -- I'm not sure what is possible or how much content we can wedge in there, but it would be nice to get something that included at least a link to the Personas section of AMO. Ideally it would include links + thumbnails for our currently Featured Personas (either randomly or something users could cycle through), and a link for "Find more..." What would be possible here? How much space is available, etc?
The link at the bottom right that currently goes to themes will go to Personas (though ideally we will eventually have a landing page that covers both). We can add a Personas panel to the promo box rotation if designs are made. The Discovery Pane is not currently heavy on promoting Personas because Personas get most of the attention on all other pages (first-run, what's new, mozilla.com, etc.) and this is a page where other types of add-ons can really shine.
Just a question -- if we started rotating the Featured Personas every week (which I'm hoping to start next week), would we be able to pull those Featured personas into the Discovery panel as like a little slideshow or something? It just seems like a great way for people to get exposed to new and interesting personas without having to go looking for them specifically.
Yeah. I'd suggest looping in chowse or mart3ll to design what that might look like.
I can have a go at mocking this up. I think what Apple does for the featured apps in the App Store is a good example (we could have a grid of featured persona thumbs at the top or bottom)

Just wondering what sort of timeline we're looking at for mockups? I'd like to make sure everything's rolling on this sooner rather than later so we don't end up messing up anyone's timing on related projects.
initial pass at the potential design for Personas boxes in the add-ons pane. Not entirely sure of the latest UX bits (alerts, etc) that would pop up at the top of this pane, so these may need to be positioned somewhere else.
aaaand I designed it for the Appearance pane. Not entirely sure if this is doable, but HEY... would be nice. As for in the Discovery pane, there already is the Personas badge on the right, so would we want to add this as one of the rotating panels in the spotlight section or add a wee grid of thumbs the same way we do add-ons beneath?
Hey Sean, I think Deb wants to add a promo on the Discovery Pane somewhere. The Appearance pane's design looks like this (http://people.mozilla.com/~jboriss/temp/aom_meeting_osx_and_win.png) but unfortunately won't make it in time for Firefox 4.
well HELL. That looks awesome. I'll have a go slotting it into the Discovery Pane.
Sorry for the confusion there. Justin: when do you need the design to be finalized for the Discovery Pane? I just want to make sure we don't end up blocking progress on anything :)
- added below Top Add-ons - stays above fold - good fit as right sidebar would then be 1) add-ons 2) personas 3) get all of both - might try another styling of the "blinds" look to make each one stand out more. perhaps have one highlighted, others faded back until rollover for better clarity.
Not entirely sure to whom this should be assigned at this point.

I'll add this to the line for Discovery Pane implementation work. I doubt we'll have time for it until Q1.

Just to verify: will it be included in the Discovery Pane work being done for Firefox 4 launch? I just want to make sure I understand the scheduling involved.

Yes, we'll put this with the other discovery pane work, but as a lower priority than what's been in the queue for a while (personalized recommendations). In Q1 we should have more time to crank those out.

Chris: let's use the featured personas we have on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/personas/ for this. Thanks!

Up at, e.g. https://addons.allizom.org/en-US/firefox/discovery/pane/4.0/Linux; for those testing, remember to add "addons.allizom.org" to the Allowed Sites list in Tools | Options | Security | Exceptions, in order to get the Persona-preview-on-hover effect working in Minefield.
That looks awesome. Should they be linking to disco pane detail pages instead of real detail pages?
Also, does the text, "This page isn't finished quite yet; look for more improvements coming soon!" need to be changed via code changes, or is that something that can be done via an Admin interface, at any time?

I have a list of disco pane blockers to identify and/or file. Planned to post do this today.
(In reply to comment #19) > That looks awesome. Should they be linking to disco pane detail pages instead > of real detail pages? I think you changed this (?) but they are still opening new pages on click, and they should be opening in the same page like all the other add-on links.
