When Syncing using 4b6, Sync re-arranged bookmarks, and it was rather difficult
to find where the bookmarks were. No bookmarks were lost.
(Filing this on behalf of my brother.)
Does your brother use folders and did the bookmarks get rearranged inside folders? Or are these bookmarks in the Unsorted bookmarks folder?
RE comment 1: if the former, this is probably a dupe of bug 545647. If the latter, this is probably a dupe of bug 538017.
Yes, he uses folders and bookmarks inside folders kept the right order.
and those mis-arranged folders weren't in the bookmarks toolbar.
I'm still not clear on where the mis-arranged items lived. Were they the direct contents of the Bookmarks menu?
(like attachment 480169 [details] vs attachment 480170 [details], on bug 545647)
Yeah, the folders used to be somewhere in the top of bookmarks menu, and
after using Sync they moved to the bottom of the menu - in both machines.
I've run into this, too, after the 4.0b8 update. Yes, I'm using folders. No, these are not Unsorted Bookmarks.

Also, the drag-and-drop editing of the bookmark menu is now broken (as of beta 8). Now, when dragging and dropping a bookmark, it doesn't get dropped where I point it - it sometimes ends up two or three locations away. And it's almost random; if I repeat the operation, it ends up somewhere else the second time.

The only way to reliably edit the bookmark order now is with the Bookmark editor ("Show all Bookmarks").

If you can reproduce this, could you please follow the steps explained at https://philikon.wordpress.com/2010/12/28/bookmark-sync-issues/. Getting more logs should hoepfully help us track down the issue.

That's disturbing. Please file a new bug in the Firefox :: Bookmarks & History component. Thanks!
please reopen if you can provide details and logs.

I haven't seen this behavior for the last few releases, so it's OK to close as fixed.
