I am also experiencing this problem, with Froyo 2.2.1 on the Nexus One. I saw this both with Firefox 4 Mobile Beta 1 and now with Beta 2 (version 4.0b2). For me it does not always happen, but mostly once I hit the home button and Firefox goes into the background, if I check system resources the CPU is maxing out a 100%. I discovered the problem because my battery was draining super fast. Force closing Firefox solves the problem.
