A common use case for me is browsing through history or bookmarks to find the page I want. The current default behaviour pops up the on-screen keyboard when I select the address bar to do this -- which actually impedes me -- I have to close it before I can browse easily.

there's a trade off here between  browsing your awesomescreen and entering a url. We've given more preference to entering a url (plus searching your awesomescreen), but as soon as you start panning the awesome screen the keyboard goes away. Also, you can use the keyboard to start searching your awesome screen results.

Finally, clicking on the url bar to bring up the keyboard is an interaction I think makes sense. Clicking the url bar and then having to click it again to get a keyboard was a bit confusing (we had this interaction before). 

I'm going to close this as won't fix because we've already had this discussion in another bug. Also CC'ing madhava in case he has anything to add.
