Firefox update had been downloading for 7 hours. That doesn't seem correct. I had to finally close the window and go to sleep.

Just interrupt the process, and try again. These things can happen when downloading something.
Note that this is not a support site, this is for filing bugs. It could indeed be a bug, but there's not enough information to see what's going on. AFAIK, downloading the update is not different from downloading anything else on the Internet.
