Details

button in the SMTP panel in the Account Settings.
QA Contact: esther → nbaca
Build 2000-11-17-04: Win95
Haven't tried Linux or Mac.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select Edit|Mail/News Account Settings
2. Select "Outgoing (SMTP) Server"
3. Select the 'Advanced' button so the "Advanced Outgoing (SMTP) Server
Settings" dialog appears.
4. Select the 'Add' button
5. Without entering a server name just select the OK button
6. It should list the smtp servers so try to click on a line below the last
server listed.

Actual Results: You will be able to select a blank line. Now select the Delete
button and it appears to have deleted the blank entry. Try selected the area
just below the last smtp server again and nothing is selected.

Expected Results: It should not allow the creation of a blank server name.
Adding mail3 keyword.

Accepting server name with no name can cause all kinds of problems.

Reassigning bug to myself and adding seth to the cc list.

It turns out that you can select the empty server and attempt to send with it
which of course doesn't work.

But since it's advanced and since it requires selecting something you can't see
and then marking it as default, I think this will be pretty rare. So marking

I set the default server to the blank setting, send a new message and the window
disappears and quickly returns.

I would like to see a message giving the user a clue as to what the problem may
be if this is every addressed.
Same thing here,

you guys discovered yourself you were able to add a NULL SMTP-server ...

Mozilla creates it for me!

The other night I was changing the SMTP server to another one, and I kept
getting error messages (server could not be reached bla bla bla). I kept looking
and looking what the problem might be. Then I found out Mozilla added a NULL
server in the SMTP list. And this is very strange: the correct server was tagged
default, but still there were problems!

After deleting the NULL one and a duplicate of the correct server Mozilla also
created for me (bug #2 ?) I could finally send mail.

Wanted to send another mail after that. DING DONG. Same problem, Mozilla just
added another NULL server and a duplicate ...

Has this been fixed in an upgrade?

The weird thing is, I've been using Mozilla for over 3 months or whatever, never
failed sending email, and now I just changed the server and BANG all those
problems ...
What about sending mail without a SMTP proxy (smarthost) when no SMTP server is
specified?
It would be a good idea to send SMTP directly to the corresponding MX in case
you don't have a SMTP proxy (smarthost) available (like when your ISP don't
provide one)
mass re-assign.
