User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.11) Gecko/20101012 Firefox/3.6.11 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.11) Gecko/20101012 Firefox/3.6.11 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)

Currently one logs into a site, manually enterring user name and login e.g. windows live mail, and then the password manager prompts for password. It would be much smoother to prompt for master password on going to a site in its list and allowing the automagic to happen. Another option would be to bring up the master password prompt when the app starts up, maybe even extending the master passwords coverage to include a whole profile e,g, bookmarks, preferences etc.

Reproducible: Always
The master password doesn't protect the profile, that's bug 16489.

The master password is only needed when you need to access the password list, for instance if a form needs to be filled out with a saved password. That's why it's not asked on startup (unless you have such a form as your home page). And since the drive is to make the startup as fast as possible, I don't think this will happen.

The master password is also triggered by the form (not the site), so the prompt can only appear if there's a form on the page, not when you go to the site.
Thanks Jo, it seems that if bug 16489 was accepted this would provide the functionality I would like. Thankyou for the info about triggering on forms. sounds like that would require a major change to trigger on websites.. so for now I may create my own start-up page to prompt the master password into action which should suit my needs..
Shouldn't this be WONTFIXed as bug 16489 was?
