User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C) For at least the last two patch releases there has been a shortcut to Firefox added to my desktop during the update procedure. Each time it appears I delete it, and it comes back with the next patch release. I don't want a desktop shortcut -- why is Firefox insisting that I must have one? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Remove Firefox desktop shortcut. 2.Report a security bug so a new version of Firefox is released. 3.Install the new version of Firefox. Actual Results: A Firefox shortcut appears on my desktop. Expected Results: No new desktop shortcut created.
Do you download and run the installer or use "Check for updates"?
I use check for updates (unless it fails, and it hasn't failed for me for quite a while). I addition to my Windows 7 box, this happened at least once on a Windows XP box.
Component: Installer → Application Update
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
QA Contact: installer → application.update
Version: unspecified → 1.9.2 Branch
Desktop shortcuts were not created in the upgrade to 3.6.13 on any of my Windows boxes. This bug should probably be closed (INVALID or possibly FIXED).
