610731 - I am unable to get rid of the Search Bar in my Firefox no matter what I attempt

Hello,

For the past few months I've been trying to get rid of this Search Bar (refer to link in the URL for screenshot) and no matter what I do it keeps coming back.

Yes, I've tried customization and when I do remove it and close Firefox and open up a new Firefox session the bar returns and resets my customization completely, putting the buttons, menus and URL bar back into their default positions, sometimes even removing some buttons I had added.

Yes, I've tried the localstore.rfd trick and that does not work either because the bar came back regardless.

No, it has nothing to do with the Firefox themes (as I use none, I use Personas) nor does it have to do with my desktop themes (whether I use Windowblinds, DesktopX Themes or Alienware Themes it comes back).

No, none of the addons/extensions I use have that feature (or nuisance in my case) of a Search Bar because when I uninstall all of them and reopen a new session of Firefox the bar reappears.

Sometimes after I have attempted the above the bar will be gone for a few hours, or a day or two, before returning. When I open the Firefox customization option to customize my toolbars I drag and drop the Search Bar into it and click Restore Default Set, click Done and it's still there...It just WON'T go away.

Why? I don't want it, never have wanted it, it's a damn nuisance and keeps messing up my Firefox set up. ): I have tried squishing it into a corner and leaving it there just for the sake of being tired of redoing my customization and it will reset everything back to default regardless.

Also, sometimes the Bookmarks button will appear with the Search Bar I've noticed, and sometimes it will be invisible and will only appear when I open the customization window and will disappear again when I close it. Also when I use the 'Restore Default Set' all the spaces I used will be put inside the customization box, which is usually 20+ white boxes it ends up being, then the Search Bar will reappear on my Firefox browser.

I don't know what to do anymore so please, is there a solution? I'm about done with using the Firefox beta because of this. And I don't think you can reproduce it, I wouldn't be able to tell you how since I don't know how I got this bar to begin with.

Bug appears regardless if I'm using a theme, Personaos or default.

Happens regardless if I am using any addons or not, or extensions.

Please try a new profile http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles and don't install any addons to it.
I removed my search bar at the moment and it doesn't seem to come back

Beta 7 will be out in a day or so, or you can test with the build at

Also, I didn't notice you describing the safe mode steps shown at
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Toolbar+keeps+resetting#Fixing_the_problem before then dragging the searchbar to the customize dialog.

Matthias: Sorry to say that that didn't work. :| It came back soon after.

Mardeg: I have installed this version and uninstalled Beta 6, I would have uninstalled it and gone back to the none-beta version of Firefox regardless but I have to say I like the look and feel of the beta one best, so I'm grateful for being able to try beta 7. I do hope that this time the Search Bar will remain gone for good. I noticed however that I had it when I installed beta 7 and had to remove it via customization. Perhaps there could be something done in a future patch where the Search Bar could have an option that would remove it from Firefox completely?

Anyhow, I hope that with beta 7 I won't have the problem of the reappearing bar again.

Are you switching between 4.0b6 and FF3.6.12 ?
