This was seen using the NS 6 CD, but I'm filing it in bugzilla because eventually, I hope, Mozilla will also be available on CDs (perhaps through a place like cheapbytes?) and since it uses the same installer, it will see the same problem, and I hope this gets fixed before that happens. I just tried for the first time to install ns6 from the CD on my RH 6.2 home machine. netscape-installer refused to run -- "netscape-installer-bin: permission denied". netscape-installer-bin wouldn't run directly, either. It turns out that netscape-installer-bin is doing something that requires writing to the current directory (which is unwritable if it's mounted on a CDROM). I was able to install it by copying the contents of the linux directory on the CD to a local directory (I symlinked the xpi directory to save space and copying time).
Is there any chance of changing the RTM release notes to mention this? Even if not, if mozilla ever makes it to CD we should be sure to relnote this then if it's not fixed.

I installed from the CD- clicking on the Netscape-Installer icon (RH6.1)and was successful
We should be able to run from a CD.

Need help triaging this: Grace says it works, Akkana says it doesn't. To my recollection, we do not try to write to the installer binary directory, only the target. Akkana, do you have a machine here that is showing the same behavior? Thanks.
Hmm, that's weird -- on my Redhat 7.0 machine at work, I don't see the error. I saw it on my Redhat 6.2 machine at home. Is it possible that it tries to make a net connection during the install, and behaves differently depending on the result? The home machine doesn't have a permanent net connection, and I wasn't dialed up when I ran the installer. I'll experiment a little on the home machine, using the same disk I used here (maybe there's a difference between it and the disk I used?) and trying with/without network, and maybe also after installing RH 7.0 (which I've been meaning to do on that machine anyway).
un-nominating for now, let us know if you find a reproducible case.
