On OS X 10.6.5, with 4.0b7, the memory usage got to 2.9GB and it hung. I think it might be related to having the wall street journal's page loaded, which refreshes every minute. See attached profile.
Created attachment 490376 [details] The memory sample This was after I quit the app. It closed windows but did not quit. I then had to force quit.
unfortunately this isn't particularly useful without a lot more detailed information that will help someone else to reproduce the issue, like links. can you still reproduce with Aurora?

I have the same problem. I am positive that any FireFox user would see this, if s/he just opens up the activity monitor after using FF for a few days non-stop (I rarely turn off my Mac and just keep FF running for several weeks). Today, FF was using over 2gig of virtual memory. After restarting FF, the size of my OSX swap file immediately reduced by 2gig. This problem existed in FF3 and got worse with every FF3 update. It's become of unacceptable magnitude in FF4. I won't install FF5 until I'm seeing messages on the internet saying that the problem has finally been solved. I will probably switch to Safari or Chrome very soon. Camino is also an interesting alternative.
I see this all the time also. I think it is due to sites that auto-refresh their pages, such as wsj.com, and the weather radars. I have mostly switched to Chrome.
Firefox 7 fixed a lost of memory issues, if you want to try it. Please file a new bug if you're still seeing problems with Fx7 or newer. Thanks.
