 I'm using Kubuntu 10.10 32bit with KDE v4.5.3, in KDE I set up several virtual
desktops.

 Firefox has a feature named "Search as you type". If I start typing then Firefox instantly shows search bar (at the bottom of window) and in web page searches for my typed text and highlights what it found. If I stop typing then after few seconds Firefox hides Search bar.

 If I switch to another desktop or focus another app window once I stop typing and after ~5 s (when Firefox auto-hides search bar) switches back to Firefox then I unable invoke Search bar by simply typing text to search ALSO page navigation with keys (f.e. Up, Down) not works. I can do this only if I click on web page area.

 Seems that when Search bar auto-hides and Firefox is not focused then  Firefox's internal focus becomes to "nowhere". I think focus silently must jump to web page (abot "silently" I mean to not cause bug #481938). 


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable "search when type";
2. When web page loaded then start typing something for search;
3. When You stop typing then immediately (before search bar auto-hides) switch
to another virtual desktop or focus another app window (can be in same desktop);
4. Wait few second for search bar in Firefox auto-hides,
5. Switch back to Firefox (by Icon clicking or Alt+Tab).

Actual Results:  
Search as You type" and page navigation with keyboard not works, You must focus WebPage area by clicking on it.

Expected Results:  
"Search as You type" and page navigation with keyboard must work.

Reporter, Firefox 4.0.1 has been released, and it features significant improvements over previous releases. Can you please update to Firefox 4.0.1 or later, and retest your bug? Please also create a fresh profile (
http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles), update your plugins (Flash, Java, Quicktime, Reader, etc) and update your graphics driver and Operating system to the latest versions available.

Tested on Kubuntu 11.04, 32bit, 2.6.38-8-generic, Firefox 4.0.1, fresh profile: bug still exists.

I'm assuming you mean the Find as you Type.
