After closing gmail the delay persists for up to 20 seconds or so. I just noticed that gmail has the same effect on other programs like utorrent. When I opened gmail all utorrent traffic ground to a halt until I closed gmail. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.open gmail in one tab 2.open another website that normally loads quickly in another tab 3. Actual Results: Second tab is drastically delayed It may not be a Firefox issue, but it would be nice if Firefox had a way to isolate gmail from slowing down other tabs.
Gmail is based on iframes, which can slow things a little bit. I agree with you on the fact that this might not be a Firefox issues, still, juanb what do you guys think?

I am still experiencing this issue. I have not tried safe mode. When gmail is open in one tab, it basically "owns" Firefox. If several tabs are open the gmail tab uses 100% of resources and no other tab will advance until the gmail tab is finished. Also, the gmail tab takes quite a while to up/down load information compared to other email.
Reporter -> Are you still experiencing this issue with the latest version of Firefox 3.6.16? Does the issue occur with Firefox 4? Please post the contents of about:memory when you experience this issue
I'm not having any problems now at all. (Now using Firefox 4.0)

I'm going to add something to this because it seems to be a related issue. For the last few days when I delete emails from any folder in gmail there is a long wait for gmail to respond. After sometimes 10 or 15 seconds or more I click on another bookmark to go to another website and get the pop up "This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave - data you have entered may not be saved. Leave Page? Stay on Page?". I click "Leave page" but nothing happens. If I then try to close the tab I again get the message "This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave - data you have entered may not be saved. Leave Page? Stay on Page?". (I already said I wanted to leave the page!) This only happens with google, and is one of a bunch of problems I've had with google in FireFox. I switched my Firewall from Zone Alarm to Online Armor about the time this issue started again, but there have been enough issues with google that I feel like something is not quite right about the connection between my computer and their website when I use Firefox. I had this issue and other issues with google on another computer in the past using another version of Firefox.

If you can reproduce the issue in Safe Mode and with a new profile, and with all security software disabled please open a new bug report. This is not the same issue that was reported.
