The hover effect for a menu item in the Firefox button menu on Linux is a gradient. You see it when hovering on an item on the left but not the right. See attached.

Bill: Is this connected to bug 614692 in some way?
It could be in that it might have the same cause. However for the the theme I use the hover effect is not a gradient. What OS theme are you using?
I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 with KDE 4.4. The KDE theme is Oxygen and the GTK+ theme is QtCurve (both are the default).
The gradient hover effect is used for all my menus in both KDE and GTK apps. It works fine in native applications as well as the normal Firefox menu. Just seems to break on the right side of the new application menu.
This is another issue that I am unable to reproduce. I AM, however, testing under Fedora 14, which was just released, so I bet I am using a newer version of gtk2 etc. I am also testing under gnome and not KDE desktop.
My GTK version is 2.20.1-0ubuntu2 here, which is the latest version for Kubuntu 10.04 (LTS). Theoretically, one would hope, that the DE wouldn't matter as we're both using GTK just under different circumstances. (aka I'm not running the Qt version of Firefox) That being said, clearly something is different as your screenshot shows a gradient working and mine has it broken.
Well, my GTK version is 2.22.0. Perhaps that is the difference?
This is definitely not a blocker, but requesting status2.0:wanted+ to keep this from getting lost. Not sure how many distros are affected, but it's a pretty ugly looking bug for those it affects.
status2.0: --- → ?
This never got fixed, however it's no longer applicable. The new Firefox menu button does not have hover styling issues and the old one has been removed. -> WFM

One of the nice benefits of not doing something special for Linux anymore is that hopefully little broken things like this won't happen as easily, and if they do, then they'll break on enough platforms for someone to bother fixing it. :/
