After confirming with Blake that the site is no longer being used, I'm opening this bug to archive the Mozilla Uninstall Survey Data site.

One thing to look into here is that a link to survey.mozilla.com seems to be included in Mozilla Central.

http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/search?string=survey.mozilla.com

We should confirm with someone on the product team that this is truly no longer used, although from Blake's comments and from the content on the site it does look abandoned.

David, do we have confirmation that survey.mozilla.com can be retired?

This is a form-based site that will not be archived, but rather just retired.

We will need someone to write a blog post regarding the retirement of this site.

Where should visitors of this website be redirected to? input.mozilla.org? Once we know this I will create the IT request ticket.

Looking at the CSV files, the email addresses have already been expunged from the data. The following CSV files will need to be backed up when retiring this site; so we will need to include these files in the it request ticket:
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Firefox_3.0pre.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Firefox_3.0b5.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Firefox_3.0.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Firefox_2.0.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Firefox_1.5.0.4.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Firefox_1.5.0.3.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Firefox_1.5.0.2.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Firefox_1.5.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Thunderbird_3.0b1.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Thunderbird_3.0a3.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Thunderbird_3.0a2.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Thunderbird_3.0a1.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Thunderbird_2.0a1.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Thunderbird_1.6a1.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Thunderbird_1.5.0.8.csv
https://survey.mozilla.com/export/export-Mozilla_Thunderbird_1.5.csv

Once we get the go-ahead, I'll file a bug to have the 3 links removed from FF documentation.
Blake (copied) is the owner of this since it is an old metrics project. I received verbal confirmation from him about archiving/retiring this but it is probably a good idea to get written confirmation in the bug. Blake, can you confirm that it's OK to turn this site off?

For the blog post, the best person for that is probably also Blake. Blake, can you write up a brief description about what the project was, what it accomplished, what has taken it's place, etc?

For the CSV files, can we have IT zip those up and put on an FTP server so we can link to it from the blog post for people interested in the data set?
Far as I know, it's okay to retire this page. We aren't analyzing this data. In terms of the write up, not sure how much assistance I can provide here -- Ken was far more involved than I.

Are you interested in running a new uninstall survey?

Creating the data backup sounds great.
As mentioned in the initial comment in this bug, we should also get someone from the product team to sign off on this since it seems like there is some code in MXR that points to this site. Even if the site itself isn't active anymore, we don't want to break something else by retiring or archiving it.

CC'ing Johnathan to see if he can confirm or tell us who to check with.

For a blog post, I can write something up if needed. It could be really short. Something like: "Before setting up programs like Test Pilot, we used to collect data to learn about why people uninstalled Firefox. The site is no longer in used but the data is available here and there might be some interesting things to still to learn."
The code found in the MXR search indicates that all of the links back to survey.mozilla.com are found within license blocks and are not actually linked from a specific page or part of the application.

I've filed a ticket (Bug 617787) to have those links removed, but I personally don't consider them to be blockers, as users following those links will be redirected accordingly (instead of 404ing).

I've tarred the data files and will include that in the IT ticket when retiring the site.

A stub blog post has been created at:

Depends on: 617787
Blog post has been updated with the link to the tarred survey files:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/data/uninstall-surveys/surveys.tar.gz
Note: Will also need to remove the survey.mozilla.org component from the Webtools produduct in Bugzilla.

That would be incorrect. The uninstall survey is very much still active.

No longer depends on: 625272
The blockers have been resolved, but just to check - Are we all set to move forward with the retirement of survey.mozilla.com?
Just to verify the user experience on this... there will still be old uninstallers that point to survey.mozilla.com so the address should still go to a page explaining that the survey is no longer available. Is there such a page yet?
The user will be redirected to the blog post on the Mozilla Website Archive site:

Feel free to post any text changes that you want here in the blog post, and I'll update the post accordingly.
Bug 655911 has been filed to retire this site.

Blake, let me know if you want to update the blog post with any historical information about the uninstall survey:
