Depending on which layout we decide to use, we'll need to make sure the right promotional content is included before launching this page.
We also may want to alter the characters a bit since Curly may not be used on the download page on launch day. Those specifics are TBD.
Assigning this to myself and will update with specifics on Monday.

Version A (http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/nova-test-596010/whatsnew-a.html)is the winner of this test. It's getting the highest CTR on the social components and gets equal CTR on the main product preview as versions B & C.
Please launch with this version of the page.
Some updated will be needed before the page launches.
Updates before launch:
1. Please design and build the following four rotating promos based on our current What's New Promos: "Spread the Word", "Thunderbird 3", "Rock Your Firefox," "Firefox Live" (all those promos can be re-purposed for this space and found here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.11/whatsnew/)
2. Remove the Super Fan (cartoon character) from the page since he will not be present on the Homepage at this time. We may also have to repurpose the persona block of content to get it to fit.
3. Stephen - Make sure correct "update" copy is displayed and reflects the right state of the person viewing it. Upon update it should say "thanks for downloading 3.6.X" and not just "3.6". It basically just needs to thank people for downloading, and state what their new version. LMK if you need that copy, it's around here somewhere...

Stephen - Do you need new graphic assets, or is this something you can do yourself?

+1 for everything in comment #1. The trickiest thing at this point seems to be getting the headline copy right (as noted in Laura's point #3). Steven, let us know if you want to discuss that in more detail and we can set up a call.

Hey Stephen - Any update here? I want to make sure you get the graphics you need to finish this page. Thanks!

Seconding Laura's ping...this is one of the last key things to do before the site is ready. Let us know how we can help (with graphic assets or whatever).

A couple of things that still need tweaking on this page:
1. I'm seeing a weird scroll box around persona preview (screenshot attached)
2. Lower left promo box showing old content. It should rotate through "Spread the Word", "Thunderbird 3", "Rock Your
Firefox," "Firefox Live" see comment #1 for more details.
3. Make sure the headline fits the right user experience. For example if you download the most recent version and are all up to date it should read "Thanks for downloading 3.6.X" and then show the sub headline.
John - what should that exact copy be?
Also, the format of that should follow the current "You're now running..." format, meaning all copy, no "Firefox 3.6" graphic: compare http://nova.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.12/whatsnew/ to http://nova.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.11/whatsnew/
4. Remove period at end of headline - should read 3.6 (not 3.6.)

*Should* be fixed in r78867. Please confirm (just committed, give the branch a few minutes to update and be sure to Shift+Refresh).

Just missed this - will updated first thing in the am.

For both 3. and 4., we should have the same text that the production pages have - that hasn't changed here to my knowledge. The trailing period ("3.6.") is in production - should we still drop it?

Confirmed - I no longer see it.

3. John - correct me if I'm off, but I think the major change we want to make here is to show the dot release version after someone upgrades to the most current release in order to communicate that they just installed the latest - after all, they were on 3.6 already. So instead of just saying "Firefox 3.6 - Thanks for supporting..." it should say "Firefox 3.6.12 - thanks for supporting..."
So the current graphic may not be able to work if it can't dynamically show the most current dot version.
4. Ah - I guess the trailing period is now more noticeable with the different font. Since it's a headline I'd vote to remove it, while keeping production as is. John - please confirm.

Yes, that all sounds right to me. Steven, please correct us if we're wrong, but we're basing this on the new What's New pages for 3.6.12: http://nova.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.12/whatsnew/.
The issue is that page shows the big Firefox 3.6 wordmark, but it's not really accurate...people have uploaded to 3.6.12, not 3.6. The big wordmark is appropriate for First Run, b/c it's people's first experience with Firefox, but for What's New we need to be more specific (and help remind them why they updated).
Like Laura said, we'd like to use the headline format from http://nova.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.11/whatsnew/, but with different copy. Here's the correct new copy:
Thanks for upgrading to Firefox 3.6.x
And for supporting _Mozilla's mission_ of promoting openness, innovation and opportunity on the Web!
link: http://www.mozilla.org/about/mission.html
Also, it's worth noting that the current live page - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.12/whatsnew/ - is wrong in this regard, so this is fixing something that's currently broken.
I hope that makes sense...please ping me if not and we can discuss further.

Agreed. It's fine on the current live site, but let's remove the period from the nova version.
Laura, thanks for tracking all this; Steven, thanks for working through all our changes.

Heading text is update as requested in r78910. Thanks for clarifying. This new setup is simpler on the back-end (few variations in heading font size/style).
Will update the promos next.

The promos are updated in r78935.
I went on the assumption that the four promos (thunderbird, rockyourfirefox, live, participate) replace the Add-ons promo that was there. Also, the production site includes a Crash Protection promo for non-mac users - I did not include that.
Laura & John, can you confirm what we've got here, and if it checks out, we'll hand over to QA.

Thanks Steven. This is totally nitpicky, but the "Mozilla mission" link in the 3.6.12 subhead looks pretty funky. See attached...

I see the issue in the screenshot, but I can't replicate that locally. Maybe we can see if it turns up in QA?

Fixed in r78941 (was only on some platforms, for some reason).

Sorry to reopen this one, but I recently found out about some further content changes we need to do to promote the beta. Am adding bug 617801 as a dependency...more details there.

Question: why is http://nova.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.13/whatsnew/ showing the wrong image and talking about being a beta tester? 3.6.13 launched today, so this is the version that will be showing when the new design goes live.

Probably because 3.6.13 went out today, and the changes haven't been merged into the nova branch yet

Re: comment #19, here are the final changes:
- replace the Personas promo with one for the Fx4 beta. The design file is here:
http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/PSD/whatsnew_02.psd
- remove all the rotating promos from the lower left *except* Firefox Live
If these can't happen before launch, then this doesn't have to be a blocker...I can always file a new bug for immediately after launch.
Let me know what you'd prefer.
