When i want to see my bookmarks on menu and toolbar it show the root bookmarks. But i have categorised bookmarks like (Lisp -> Blogs -> ...). I move the mouse over the Lisp item. It doesn't show submenu (Blogs, Books, ...) plus it close the bookmarks menu (general) sorry about bad english.

Reproducible: Always
I have also seen this problem, and it may be related address/awesome bar problems (bug 604710 and bug 507269).

Does this happen after your screen saver runs or your screen locks? That's mentioned in bug 604710. The next time it happens please:

1) Type something in the address bar to see if you get suggestions. That would help show whether the two problems are linked.

2) Switch to another virtual desktop and switch back. (In the default configuration of Gnome on Ubuntu, the desktops are in the lower right of the bottom panel, near the trash icon.)

Please report whether this solves the problem. This is has been a major pain for me, but I just discovered that switching virtual desktops hack and it fixed my Firefox,
I have the menu bar hidden on my machine. When I experience this issue, it manifests as being unable to open any of the submenus in the Firefox menu. For instance, hovering over the ">" in "New Tab >" causes the whole Firefox menu to close.
Whenever I see this my awesome bar also doesn't work, and switching focus fixes both, so I'm pretty sure this is the same issue.
In addition to having this issue (I was the one who filed bug 615082), I've also been having the symptoms of the two bugs mentioned above. I'm also frequently sleeping/waking my computer several times a night; I'll have to pay attention to whether I only experience it in cases where I've left the browser open before setting it to sleep.

My apologies for not making the connections earlier.
I dont believe this is a separate bug, it seems to be only a focus issue and seems related to Bug 507269 .
However, as I mentioned in comment 30 on Bug 507269 , this started to showup around r57984 (i'm not sure of the exact rev though but this is closer to when the problem started) . Submenus were working fine earlier.

Oh! This is not only for the submenus but also affects the context menu.
(Try this, whenever you notice the submenus not showing up, try right-clicking on the webpages the context menu wont appear.)

Both the submenu and the context menu work with the same workaround as required for Bug 507269 . All these seem like focus issues not working properly with compiz.
Is there a reason this shouldn't be a dupe of bug 507269? (If there is a reason, it would be nice to at least mark this as confirmed,)
This is a dupe if nobody's seen the problem without suspend, but otherwise, maybe that bug is a dupe of this one. :)
Hey guys, I was told that bug #631518 was probably a duplicate of this.

If you run:
metacity --replace&

in a terminal (if running gnome/compiz) does it fix the bug?

'cause for me, running compiz --replace& temporarily fixed my menu problems, but replacing it with metacity seemed to permanently fix.
I am seeing this also, and it always happens at the same time as what's described in bug 507269 and also comment 3. The context menu also disappears as soon as my mouse enters it.

I just tried going to another window and coming back (as recommended by comment 4) and that seemed to unstick it. But I've only tried once.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0b13pre) Gecko/20110303 Firefox/4.0b13pre
I can pretty much confirm disabling compiz and restoring metacity fixed things.
In gnome that is:
System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects->None

Also fixed bug #631518. I've tried bisecting bug #631518 - unfortunately, my linux laptop is on natty (requested by bjacob for webgl testing, amusingly) which does not function on builds from as recently as this summer.

So, hopefully someone else will make the attempt.
Sounds like a job for a Linux VM -- that way, you can still use your machine while it's locked / in screensaver mode, and you can install whatever OS is necessary.
That thought occurred to me, I just wasn't too sure the bug would actually be reproducible in a VM (given the compiz link).

I suppose I can make the attempt.
This happened to me twice more yesterday. In both cases, simply focusing in another window and coming back restored things.

I'll forward dupe this to bug 631518 as there is more analysis there.
