User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/8.0.552.215 Safari/534.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 When I click on "Firefox" menu (Which is present at the upper left most corner of the mozilla firefox web page), I get an option " New Tab" which opens a new tab in the same window of the mozilla browser. However that "New tab" option has got a sub-menu which again has the option named as " New Tab" which again opens a new tab in same window. That means the "Firefox" menu has duplicate "New Tab" options. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a Mozilla Firefox Browser ( Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 version) 2. Click on "Firefox" menu. Actual Results: "Firefox" menu (Which is present at the upper left most corner of the mozilla firefox web page) has an option named as " New Tab" which opens a new tab and the "New Tab" option has got a sub menu which has got the duplicate option " New Tab" which again opens a new tab in same window. Expected Results: "Firefox" menu can have an option as " New" after clicking on which you will get a sub menu displaying options such as " New tab", "New Window" etc.
If most people who click on the Firefox menu want to open a new tab, then having the first option there and labeled as such makes sense in order to recognize it quickly. This is assuming the majority of people want to open a new tab as opposed to a new window. On the other hand, if you don't want to open a new tab, but a new window, then you probably want to have the New Window option listed first after you click on New Tab. In any case, having the button just say New might not be ideal. Adding Alex for him to comment.
similar to bug 600542 Personally I think that the button should behave more like a regular vertical menu with regular submenus.
First submenu item is always redundant, this allow us to expose keybaord shortcuts, and users are able to find the commands they are looking for if they fail to recognize that the main menu commands are themselves operable. Making the main menu commands inoperable would significantly reduce efficiency for the majority of users, since we've pretty carefully selected which items are placed in the main menu.
Well then may be removing "New Tab" option from sub-menu can be the solution because if I, as a end user have to open a new tab then would prefer the option given in main menu and I wont go to the sub-menu option unless I have to open a new window.
I don't think this exists any more
