I know the FAQ says the tech doesn't exist, but looks like other people have done it:

We should be leading rather than following with open video. As a plus, flumotion does a lot of open source hacking.

Fwiw, we had a long series of talks with Flumotion about this. It turned out that their current offering couldn't meet our needs.
Otherwise, I totally agree with the "leading, not following" attitude.
