We're seeing too many users searching for things like StumbleUpon, Firesheep, Flash and installing the Persona instead of the add-on they think it is. They then write reviews and abuse reports wondering why it's not working like it's supposed to. For someone not intimately familiar with our site, it's likely they would assume the Persona is just the preview/branding for the real add-on. We've also received a number of complaints in our forums about Personas showing up and sometimes showing up before the add-ons they're looking for. We should go back to not showing them unless the user is explicitly looking for Personas.

Is this really the solution you want, or how about sinking the persona queries? That should resolve the issues with StumbleUpon, Firesheep etc. and for the complaints registered in the forum.

Flash and Firesheep aren't hosted on AMO, so no matter how low we rank the results, the problem would still exist.

As I recall this was not an easy change to make when we added it. By "explicitly looking for" are you saying this only shows up if you're looking at personas already or you change the search drop down to "all personas"?

I'm fine with a compromise like bug 620499. If you search from the homepage you get everything, but if you search from within any specific add-on type or category, you get that add-on type.

I just pulled it entirely. http://github.com/jbalogh/zamboni/commit/682faa1 Also if we change our mind, it's an easy change back.
