If you load the attached testcase, the font load starts but we don't use the font because it's from another origin. No message is reported in the Web Console to explain why the font wasn't used. There should be one.

Do you mean the Error Console?

It should report to both (Error Console will be disabled before we ship, but both consoles display most of these types of warnings). Doing this optimally may depend on one of the patches in bug 606498.
(And other errors that cause us not to load the font would ideally also print something on the console.)

Closing this as a dup of bug 494130. I've posted a patch there to introduce some basic console messages.
