Many of today's malware will set a proxy in Windows. I think Firefox default on proxies should be "No proxy" seeing as how if one wants to use a proxy he/she should know how to change this option.
Reproducible: Always

And how should it stop the malware to change the Firefox settings to use their proxy ?
It won't stop the malware, it will allow them to access internet so they can try to remove the malware. I think it just makes sense to be set not to use a proxy as most users don't know what a proxy is.

Your last posts makes no sense to me.

If malware installs a proxy, the malware can change Firefox settings to use this proxy. That is no difference to the situation we have now.
That malware installs a proxy is new to me. Malware usually installs a LSP or a keylogger.
>most users don't know what a proxy is.
That is the reason why this is set to use the system settings.
Many companies use a proxy and with the "use system settings" they can use Firefox without knowing anything about proxies.
Based on Matthias' comments, I think this is probably WONTFIX. Moving to Enhancement Requests for the meantime.
Severity: normal → enhancement
