User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Namoroka/3.6.13pre Firefox.3.6 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0E)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Namoroka/3.6.13pre Firefox.3.6 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0E)

I use TabMix Plus. Some of my Tabs are for _this_ Site and I am logged in here, some Tabs are for elsewhere with or without 'Logins'.

One Tab is for here: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/4.0b8-candidates/build1/unsigned/win32/en-US/firefox-4.0b8.txt

I don't recall having to "Log in" and if the Password is not the same as here or 'anon@...' then I have no guesses. It looks like I simply followed the URL from this Page: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_4b8/Test_Plan .

When I restarted the Browser I got a pop-up that said "Authentication Required", and then another, and another.

One of the choices in this popup is [Cancel] and since I am seeing the URL for a different Page behind these pop-ups (it is NOT for ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/ or https://wiki.mozilla.org/ but somewhere else) I am NOT going to enter my User Name and Password.

I keep trying to dismiss these with [Cancel] and the "Red 'X'" but more popup.

If I use WinXP's ALT-TAB I can see that these popups actually have 'instances' that I can switch to (they are like a separate Program in the 'ALT-Tab Switcher Pane') but in the "Task Manager" they are not separate Processes thus they can not be terminated using the Task Manager (like plug_in-container could).

It turns out that the ONLY way to get rid of these 'things' is to wait until the cursor flashes in the "User Name" field (possibly sped up by clicking on it and ALT-TABbing away and back), then hit the TAB key a couple of times until the [Cancel] Button becomes highlighted. Now strike the Spacebar and the damn thing closes (leaving the Tab "untitled" but the History intact).

These pop-ups disable the Browser's Menu until you deal with them. If you use the Mouse and the [Cancel] Button to dismiss them more will popup. Only if you deal with each one as I have explained (and not with the mouse click) will you get control of your Browser back. With the Browser's Menu disabled the only alternative is the Browser's "Red 'X'".

Thanks,
Rob

Reproducible: Always
Please retest without addons like tabmix plus

I read the Help file at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Tabbed%20browsing but it is unclear if without TMP it would attempt to reload on a restart; have you tested that. The last time I used 'Profiles' (if that is what you are suggesting) it was more trouble than it was worth and no help.

Rob
Reports that can be caused by extensions are not useful for us. That is the reason why you should test without extensions (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode) before your report a bug.

>you tested that.

Firefox does that if you configure it (Session restore).
Additional note: FF3.6.X will not get bug fixes except if it's a regression or a security bug. You should also consider to test Firefox4.0beta8
My caution was caused by all the trouble that Profiles caused in this Bug 560048 .
I will do a partial Backup prior to testing so I do not wreck my Installations and hinder my ability to deal with other open Bug Reports by having different versions in different states depending upon this feature being bug-free in all installed versions.

I am running 3.6.x under WinDbg to report memory leaks and in the event that there is a crash there will be a WinDbg Log in additional to the rest.

I am testing Namoroka, Minefield, 4b9 (now), and 3.6.13pre .

OK, up and running.

When I restart the Site does not request authentication, there is no popup as there was before and the one I got were not from TMP. Is there a means to trigger the "Authentication Required" popup or a period of time to wait to be de-authenticated?

Should I fire up 'IE' go to a _different_ Website and logoff so that the website in question will get the message and require authentication? What is the trick ?

Thanks,
Rob
This is probably a duplicate of bug 516781, but I'll leave that for one of you to determine.
Version: unspecified → 3.6 Branch

There seems a lot of these but as best I can determine most (all?) are going to Bug 411085

Thanks for spotting that Adam,
