If extensions have a GUID instead of a named identifier the compatibility check doesn't show an icon. See the screenshot.

That isn't the compatibility check dialog, it is the install dialog, and on the startup of Firefox 3.6 if I'm not mistaken? Is this reproducible on 4.0?
Summary: Compatibility check dialog doesn't show icons for extensions with a GUID → Install dialog doesn't show icons for extensions with a GUID

Ah right. Sorry for that. What would I have to do to force it to appear in Firefox 4?

We don't show it in exactly the same situation in Firefox 4, I guess the closest test would be if dragging multiple XPI files to the add-ons manager showed icons for everything properly

Yes, renaming one of the extensions, i.e. Nightly Tester Tools to {8620c15f-30dc-4dba-a131-7c5d20cf4a29}.xpi and d&d them into the AOM, will show the correct icon. So it is a 1.9.2 only issue.
