I have the same error with Firefox 3.6.13 and Sync 1.6 on Windows XP.  Many times when a sync starts, it ends by showing "error while syncing".   

In the past sync would also cause Firefox to freeze for several minutes, but after I toggled history, preferences and tabs OFF in the sync options, the freeze is for a much shorter span of time; seconds instead of minutes. 

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Tools > sync > sync now
2. error while syncing
Actual Results:  
error while syncing

Expected Results:  
Normally this would end quietly without any message.

I'm not sure what makes you think this is a dupe of bug 602576. Please go to about:sync-log, save the file and attach it to this bug. This should help us find out what's really wrong for you.

I was having a few other problems with this computer, so I reinstalled my OS.  Since then, Firefox Sync no longer shows an error.
