After updating to 4beta8 the search bar stopped working. The error console gives:

Error: engine is null
Source File: jar:file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Mozilla%20Firefox%204.0%20Beta%207/omni.jar!/components/nsSearchSuggestions.js
Line: 468
I looked at what search engine providers were available and the list was empty. I was able to fix this by going to manage search engines and clicking restore defaults.
Summary: search bar stops working and gives "engine is null" → search engine list is empty after update to beta8 breaking search bar
Sounds maybe related to bug 620672.
Jeff, were you always using beta builds of Firefox 4? Also have you participated in the search bar studies executed by the testpilot extension?

+1 for me. As far as i can tell, I've always used betas of FF4 (but not all of them) and since my upgrade to beta9 and beta10 the list is empty and the UI gives no message to what's going on...
Before discovering an empty SE list, i thought it was a mess with the return key event.

Thus, i think one should understand why the list become empty in some context but also the UI should *signal* when the list of SE is empty.

It wasn't my browser, so I have no additional information about the problem.
