Firefox is always one single session but with multiple windows.
Do you mean that CTRL+N works but calling the Firefox.exe doesn't open a new window ?

Version: unspecified → 3.6 Branch
For Matti from bug originator -- Ahhhhh, Grasshopper. Up until 12/10/10 was always able to open 2 or more *sessions* (with multiple windows on each *session* very convenient on my 2-monitor system) which meant bm's and weather available all over. I said what I meant. Have tried other way to initiate (program list) -- no go. Now I have to open an IE session besides my trusty Ffx. Clunky and slow. Hope priorities attend to fixing this bug.

Firefox is always a single session and that hadn't changed in the last 10 years that I'm helping here.
All windows are in the same session but you can create more than one single window.
I would suggest to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it if you only have the problem that you can't create a new window with clicking the FIrefox Icon again and opening a new window with ctrl+N works.
You will not loose your data/bookmarks etc if you don't choose to do that during the uninstall.
If opening a new window with ctrl+n doesn't work you should try http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
OTOH IE easily generates multiple *sessions* -- at times unwanted. ??? Ahhh, silly incomplete me. Adding to the last from bug originator.

You can have multiple session with IE, that is correct.
Well, why not continued FF?
Incidentally, have un/re installed 3.6.13. No change. Will the promoted FF 4 fix the multiple sessions glitch? (I'm past using Beta's).

Firefox should open a new window if you click the Firefox Icon. I'm still not 100% sure if you problem is that you only have one single session or that you can't open new windows with clicking the icon in the windows dock.
That Firefox is using a single session is a design decision and not a glitch and that will not change with FF4.
Matti, how should I say it in English? For years I was able to open multiple *sessions* and now I can't.
Would you please share with me your credentials to say "That Firefox is using a single session is a design decision and not a glitch
and that will not change with FF4."
A search for new browsing strategies hangs in the balance.
