(Whiteboard: [puppet])
This is not currently a high priority, but we should get a more up-to-date puppet installed. Newer versions have a bunch of new capabilities. The one I'm most keen on is almost trivial: using regular expressions in cases and conditionals.
2.6.0 also runs on Windows, so we can experiment with that, but I'll try to avoid scope-creeping this bug into Windows.
I'm not sure which is more important - the master or slave version. We should probably aim to upgrade both, as much as possible.

According to James Turnbull:
- 0.24.8 is pretty old - it's older than the "legacy" version on the website
- upgrade masters first - old clients work with new masters, but not vice versa

The readme in
https://github.com/ripienaar/puppet-catalog-diff
mentions some subtle problems during the upgrade, too, so we should use puppet-catalog-diff to carefully manage the upgrades.
