Bug 572160 added the ability to move tabs into the titlebar when tabs are on top, the app button is enabled, and the window is maximized.

It would be nice to have an option to remove the requirement of having the window maximized, at least for Windows 7.

My reason for this is because I rarely have my browser window maximized to the full size of my monitor, but I do usually keep it filling up half the width of the screen, full height. (I use Win7's Aero Snap to 'snap' Firefox to the right side of the screen.) With the window using the full height of the screen, but not having the tabs in the titlebar, I lose out on an Fitt's Law wins I could be having.

If Firefox could detect whether it is 'snapped' to an edge of the screen and move the tabs to the titlebar, that would be nice.

Another option might be to change the boolean pref "browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar" to be a string with options for "never", "maximized", and "always" (or integers 0,1,2?), and move the tabs to the titlebar accordingly.

I agree that if you're using Aero Snap to fill the left or right side of the screen, we should also put the tabs in the titlebar.

i'd go even further - i'd prefer the "always"-setting, since i use the KDE-style Alt+Left-Drag to move windows around i don't really have a use for the wasted space from that title-bar :)

Windows 7 also has a feature where you can drag either the top or bottom edge of a window to the corresponding screen edge and it will vertically maximize the window. The tabs should be on top in this situation too!

I agree and I think it's even more possible with the new Nightly theme, where there are no "Firefox" in the titlebar and where buttons are anyway at the good place to let us won some vertical place !
