When you receive a message with
- an embedded image or
- an attached image that it displayed inline (TB -> View -> Display attachment inline)
there's currently no way to rotate that image within TB.

However rotation functionality is necessary whenever an image has a wrong orientation.

Rotation should be accessible via mouse-right-click --> context menu, e. g.:
rotate 180°
rotate left 90°
rotate right 90°

Reproducible: Always
Yes, but that extension only works up to TB 3.1 so far.
Not for TB 3.3 in my case.

Therefore would be a big gain to have a rotation functionality implemented directly in TB by standard.

That's hardly surprising as we've only released one alpha, most extensions won't update until the late beta stage.

Just because an extension is not supporting something in the latest version, it does not mean that we should include it in Thunderbird by standard.

I'm not saying that we won't include image rotation functionality, but extension compatibility (especially against a non-fully released version) by itself is not a good reason for putting something into core.
I agree. As long as extensions work, there's not really a need to implement its function directly into TB.

However, thinking of the past: The bad thing is that many of my faourite extensions stopped working after upgrading vom TB2 to TB3.
Therfore my fear is always that each extension stops working one day (i. e. does not get updated any more).

So I just wanted to give some impulses to think about a pro-active implementation.
Would this bug include the Gallery View that can be used to view images attached to an email?

Also some more discussion is included in bug 298619.
