I don't think the transparency for the arrow panels is working out.  It makes them kind of muddy, and increases the visual complexity.  Let's go for pure white, to keep the design crisp.  Also the visual affordance for being ephemeral is no longer an objective since I'm backpedaling and endorsing having a close button (bug 615315).
