User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.1.17pre) Gecko/20110111 SeaMonkey/2.0.12pre
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.1.17pre) Gecko/20110111 SeaMonkey/2.0.12pre

If one selects one's country > printer type > printer model, the next page is a small one with a 'Back' and a 'Next' button. If one clicks on 'Next', one obtains a 'page cannot be found' message.

In both FireFox and Safari, the next page allows one to enter one's address, etc., and progress further.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select 'United Kingdom' from the drop-down list.
2. Select 'single-function' as printer type.
3. Select 'Stylus Photo R340' from the drop-down list.
4. Click 'Next'.
Actual Results:
The next page is a small one with a 'Back' and a 'Next' button. If one clicks on 'Next', one obtains a 'page cannot be found' message.

Expected Results:
The next page should allow one to enter one's address, etc., and progress further.

Mac G4 (PPC), OS X 10.4.11.

This problem is not present either in FireFox or in Safari.
In Firefox 4.0b10pre after selecting "United Kingdom" I am taken to a page with the following text:

Welcome to Epson’s Cartridge Collection and Recycling Program

At Epson, we know that planning for the future requires a strong commitment to our environment. This is why we aim to collect your empty cartridges to reduce landfill and ensure that they are properly recycled using the latest available technologies.

Select the right return program for you:

I own an Epson inkjet printer
and want to return my cartridge via the postal return program
OR
I want to return my cartridge to the nearest Express Center

I own less than 10 Epson laser printers
and want to participate in the postal return program

I own more than 10 Epson laser printers
and want to participate in the box collection program

I own an Epson Large Format printer
and want to participate in the box collection program

Click here to learn more about our Return & Recycle Incentive Program dedicated to specific laser supplies.
You missed one step:

I own an Epson inkjet printer
and want to return my cartridge via the postal return program <-- click here.

Works for me I was able to get to a page to enter the address etc.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; rv:1.9.1.17pre) Gecko/20110108 Lightning/1.0b2pre SeaMonkey/2.0.12pre

Please retest SeaMonkey in safe mode using the procedure detailed here:
<http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode>
I am sorry to disagree with you, but I missed no step. It works for me, too, in Safari and in FireFox, but on my computer it does not work in SeaMonkey. I shall try again a little later on in Safe Mode.
It does not work for me in Safe Mode, either.
> I am sorry to disagree with you, but I missed no step.

Between step 1 and step 2 you missed having to click on the following link:

"I own an Epson inkjet printer
and want to return my cartridge via the postal return program"

which takes you to:
<http://content.epson-europe.com/environment/collectandrecycle/en/fulfillment_inkjet.html>

This page then allows you to select the printer type and model. Selecting single function printer and Stylus Photo R340 and clicking on [next] brings up a form:

I agree that my registration information can be used by Epson for marketing purposes and will not be shared with third parties.

Works for me in SeaMonkey 2.0
Note I am in Asia. It is possible that Epson is going geolocation sniffing and serving me a different page than what you get.

CC IanN: can you check that this problem exists for someone located in the UK.
Re Comment #5: If you, Mr. Chee, can explain how I could have got to the list of printer models without having gone through the steps you allege that I missed; and, moreover, can explain how it is that I, allegedly missing those steps, could successfully get to the final page in FireFox and Safari, but could not get there in SeaMonkey after repeated attempts, both in Safe Mode and otherwise, then I will begin to take your comments seriously.

As for Comment #6, are you suggesting that Epson is not only 'going geolocation sniffing' but is serving different pages to Safari and FireFox than to SeaMonkey in one and the same location, i.e. the UK?

A little logic is helpful, is it not?
On both Windows and Linux, I have to go through the extra step that Philip describes, but I do get through to a page that asks for an address.

To help you, by applying a bit of logic, it is more likely that Epson is sniffing SeaMonkey's useragent and the combination of platform and browser is not getting recognised properly and thus, missing the extra step, that appears for Windows and Linux, and giving you the page not found too.

I'm cc'ing stefanh who can test on OS X and confirm:
1/ That on OS X you don't get asked for this extra step
but more importantly
2/ Whether you get to a page that asks to enter an address (on 2.0.x and 2.1beta)
Re Comment #8: I don't know who missed that 'extra step', but it wasn't me. Is this the stage you are referring to? "I own an Epson inkjet printer and want to return my cartridge via the postal return program"? One is certainly asked for that in OS X, and of course I clicked on it, as I have repeatedly said. That is so obvious that it never occurred to me that I had specifically to mention it in order to fend off someone who was more interested in nitpicking than in discovering the problem in SeaMonkey.

Up to that point, and to the next stage (the drop-down list of printer models), the questions one is asked and the resulting behaviour is identical on all three browsers. It is at the next stage that the procedure breaks down in SM but continues in Safari and FireFox.

It should be noted that the questions one is asked on this website differ, depending on which country one claims to be situated in, presumably because the recycling arrangements are different in different countries.

I have been assiduously reporting bugs in SeaMonkey since long before it was even called SeaMonkey. And I have to say that I am not a programmer, but (as, amongst other things, a former physicist and now a philosopher) I have a very firm grasp of logic, thank you very much. It is not much of a reward for spending hours on bug-reporting when others attempt to treat one as if one cannot follow the simplest online instructions on a website.
Michael,

I'm quite sure the problem you have with this site is related to how your cookie preferences are set. Can you check your cookie settings? You'll find then in Preferences --> Privacy & Security: Cookies.

Now, if you have "Block cookies" or "Allow cookies for the originating website only" selected, the site won't work properly.

I tested this and as long as I have "Allow all cookies" selected, it works properly, so the site obviously relies on the ability to set a cookie and use that for the next step in the process.

Can you please comment if you have your cookie preferences set to something else than "Allow all cookies" and, if you have, changing it to allow all cookies makes it work for you (if it does, you can also resolve this bug as "worksforme")?
Just for information the website that seems to issue the cookies is secure2.cycleon.net, hence the reason why "Allow cookies for the originating website only" would not work.
Re Comment #10: You are absolutely right, Stefan. I have always had the prefs. set to 'Allow all cookies', but when I looked just now on reading your comment, the setting had somehow got changed to '...originating website only'. Now that I have changed it back, the website performs correctly.

I can only imagine that when I installed an add-on called 'BetterPrivacy', which deletes LSO cookies, it changed the setting behind the scenes. I shall check what it does, and (if necessary) uninstall BetterPrivacy.
