Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b10pre) Gecko/20110116 Thunderbird/3.3a3pre

After opening the add-ons manager and moving the mouse over on of its buttons like Tools/Remove (likely also Disable/Enable), it flickers/blinks for a short time, switching to another application and returning to Shredder fixes the problem.

Does not happen in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b10pre) Gecko/20110116 Firefox/4.0b10pre , so filed bug against Thunderbird.
Related to or dupe of bug 626250?
I have not enough add-ons in trunk to get it scrolling, but the machine has SSE2 (it is an Intel Pentium M 725, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_M_microprocessors ).
Aryx, do you also see this on Firefox 4.0bx ?

And also not in 4.0b9.
I see the button-blinking in both the "Get Add-ons" tab as well as for the Options and Disable buttons in "Extensions" using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b10pre) Gecko/20110112 SeaMonkey/2.1b2pre on a non-SSE2 system.
Did that work in older trunk builds of thunderbird? A possible regression in layout? Sounds like given the comment 5.
At the end of last week, some changes for 3.3a2 regarding the add-ons manager landed.
You have the dates or even better changeset we can use to query for?
Unlikely, I'm seeing this in a January 12 build already, thus before that.

It is a complete guess, but could someone try one of these builds:

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/tryserver-builds/bugzilla@standard8.plus.com-902e96fec464/tryserver-win32/

These have the directx dlls included in the build which also re-enables angle/web gl (bug 632148). Whilst I serious doubt this will fix it, afaik it is the only thing anywhere near rendering that we are different on at the moment wrt build config, so its probably worth a try.

No difference with the tryserver build here. I really think this has some hardware/dispay board dependency.
As with the "blank on scroll" bug 626250, resizing the window, or starting TB with the addons tab previously left open, by-passes the problem.

Here is my display hardware info on this test box:
Adapter DescriptionIntel(R) 82815 Graphics Controller
Vendor ID8086
Device ID1132
Adapter RAM Unknown
Adapter Driversi81xdnt5
Driver Version 6.13.1.3196
Driver Date 7-23-2002
Direct2D Enabled false
DirectWrite Enabled false (0.0.0.0, font cache n/a)
WebGL Renderer(WebGL unavailable)
GPU Accelerated Windows 0/2

Those are the latest drivers for this Win2k box.

These builds fix the problem for me (because the problem still exists in the latest nightly).

Windows XP SP 3
Do folks still see this with the latest 3.3 development builds?
I'm not seeing it in the extensions panel anymore. In fact no color change at all on hover. But the "get addons" panel is still affected.
My suspicion is that either this is something in core that Thunderbird hasn't included, or it is something in core that is somehow shown up by Thunderbird. I'm guessing its graphics related to something like that.

Maybe if we can find more affected people that might help us tie things down.

Not blocking on this at the moment - its hard to assess the impact and we could do with some more QA/STRs.

Hi Joe: I don't see this in Windows 7 on our office Alienware Laptop running Thunderbird 3.3a4pre (2011-05-10). Could you please give us a a detailed set of steps to reproduce?

I'm sure this is hardware dependent in some way.
I have TB running on 3 system here:
Win 2k OS P3 cpu (no sse2, no Graphics card hardware acceleration)
Flickers
Winxp laptop centrino chipset (mobile p3 no sse2, no graphics hardware accel)
Flickers
Win7 Pro I3 cpu with diect2d, sse2+ and graphics hardware accel)
Runs fine..no flicker.

Some background:
Originally I saw the flicker when mousing over the buttons in the "extensions" panel. Presumably something fixed that in the extension manager. Not there anymore

Current Steps:
Open the "get extension" panel (being careful to not re-size or scroll the page) and mouse over either left chevron, or right chevron (thats the big blank pane under "what are addons"
Drag the mouse left and right to see the "fireworks"
If you see Adblock as a featured addon mouse over that to see the flicker.

This is really minor, but quite annoying, if you don't know how to make it stop.
That is: re-size the window.
This is now WFM
Most likely due to http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-miramar/rev/44057f266e96
I'm not at all sure that the mentioned checkin was intended for the miramar branch though.
