See testcase, which creates an alert every 3 seconds.
When opening a new tab, you still get to see the alerts going on.
If you're on a different tab, or you have the awesomebar open, for example, you shouldn't be getting these alerts appearing.
On Firefox this was considered a security issue at some point.

This might involve porting the tab-modal alerts currently used by Firefox back to Fennec. I doubt it blocks, though.

Yeah, Fennec's prompting code needs some love and has other problems. I started some work in bug 573649 to bring it back closer to how Firefox works... The WIP patch there is way stale now, especially since tab-modal prompts have landed.

We have a bug on this for native already.
Mass resolving XUL Fennec I filed to WORKSFORME. If someone still cares about this bug, please reopen.
