Details

When I run an application that asks for mail to be sent, Netscape 4.76 mail pops
up, even though I told Mozilla to be the default.

This breaks things such as Groove:

We have an update for you on your issue with Netscape mail. In order to
verify what our developers have found, can you launch Internet Explorer,
not Netscape, and click a mailto link from there. We believe that what you
will find is that your old mail client (Netscape 4.75) will launch. We
believe that this is because Netscape 6's Web Mail is not MAPI compliant.
Any element, external to the Netscape 6 browser, that attempts to launch a
MAPI mail client will launch your Netscape 4.75 Messenger.

If this occurs for you, as it did for us, the problem here lies with
Netscape 6's mail capabilities, not with Groove. Please let us know if you
find something different occurring.

I verified this!
James, does the problem only occur with Netscape 6 or also with recent Mozilla
builds? If you can reproduce this with a recent Mozilla nightly, could you tell
us which build ID it is?

Thanks for using Mozilla and reporting bugs!
checking on this again, looks like Mail is indeed not MAPI compliant and that
there is a bug already open on that. Marking as a duplicate of that bug.
