When you content-zoom in any sort of HTML or XHTML (all XML-based documents prior to 1.9.2, when bug 549052 further changed things), the image fails to fill the thumbnail frame:

+----+----+
|XXXX| |
|____| |
| |
| |
+---------+

Unlike in 1.9.2's bug 549052, the aspect ratio of the image and the thumbnail frame match; the image just isn't bit enough to fill the thumbnail frame.

Conversely, a zoomed-out page appears too big for the thumbnail frame (thumbnail content appears at roughly actual size, wrongly cropped, when the page content is actually quite tiny).

This is probably related to bug 453562 (probably the same underlying problem, i.e. bug 453562 comment 3), but it's different UI and should probably be tracked separately.

The bottom right thumbnail is of a page that has been content-zoomed-out quite severely (so that it appears quite small); note that it appears here in the inverse of the zoomed-in problem as illustrated by the other three thumbnails.
