I am running Firefox 4.0b9. I have seen this problem in b7, and b8 as well. It was not present in 4.0b6. It has happened on several web sites, but most reliably on okcupid.com. If you click around through their menus, the browser will lock up. It will not switch between tabs, and clicking on the X button button to close the window will produce cause a "application is not responding" dialog box to be displayed. I have two okcupid accounts, one paid, and one free. It only happens on the free account, so I assume it is related to the advertisements that are displayed to non-paying members.
I've been running 4.0b10 and the probably may be fixed. I did have it lock up once, but it was the first restart in the transition from b9 to b10. It's possible I was still running b9. I don't know how that would have happened, but I got the "you just upgraded" screen on the subsequent restart. I any event, I'm optimistic this was addressed.
I can confirm that this is no longer an issue.
