Build: 2000121514, Mac OS 9.0
To reproduce:
* Create a new profile.
* Go to <http://www.yahoo.com/> (a page which does not specify its own background
color).
What you see:
* A background color of mid-gray (#cccccc), which is too dark for comfortable
reading.
What you should see:
* Whichever shade of gray is quickest for most people reading Web pages. This
won't be #ffffff (the contrast with black text is too high); the ideal color is
probably about #eeeeee.

I think the default should be white. Now that it isn't, authors override it with white anyway.

Is this bug also present on Linux? It seems to be based on comments in dup
bug 67171.

Yes, this bug still shows on Linux. I created a new profile, and the default
background was gray.
I'm attaching a test case, since the page at the URL given might change at some
point.

I've just submitted 84597 which is similar but different.
Colors for the checkmarks and radio button dots appear to be
hard coded and are not visible with by dark system background
color. Ensuring sufficient contrast for all windows however
might be fairly easy.

Wait a second - the default background color is a user defined pref. Check your
preferences dialog, under the topic Colors. If the problem is with the default
setting, this is probably a Prefs bug.
