Browser build 2000151221 with installed jre1.3 using
Linux-Mandrake 7.2
Enable Java in Preferences. Try url http://java.sun.com.
In the upper right theres a java applet. The applet is
not shown and there is a demand to download the java
plugin again. Disabling Java in Preferences the applet
is shown. This effects on all Sites with java-applets.

just tried this on the trunk build 1218 and this works perfectly fine (as 
desired) on redhat 6.1
