User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b10) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Android; Linux armv7l; rv:2.0b11pre) Gecko/20110126 Firefox 4.0b11pre Fennec/4.0b4 WebM video playback in Firefox 4.0b4 on my Nexus One is extremely choppy--a loading indicator will sometimes show up, the framerate is very low and unreliable, and the audio often skips. This happens on the video Mozilla posted to announce the new beta: http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/2011/02/01/new-firefox-4-beta-for-android-and-maemo-is-faster-than-ever/ I'm sure the team is aware of this, but I couldn't find a bug for it so I figured it was worth reporting. I'm aware of the issues with WebM hardware decoding (especially since its not natively supported in 2.2) and realize this is a work in progress, but average users seeing Firefox in the Android market and giving it a try may not, especially when they're used to smooth playback on sites like YouTube and Vimeo in the Android browser or in Safari on the iPhone and iPad. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Visit http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/2011/02/01/new-firefox-4-beta-for-android-and-maemo-is-faster-than-ever/ 2. Start playing the inline video Actual Results: Video is choppy and sound skips. Expected Results: Video should be smooth and seamless.
Sign in page for the Youtube HTML 5 beta is at http://www.youtube.com/html5 Duplicate of bug 626344?
The issue is specifically for the WebM video posted to the Mozilla blog, but I see similar (if not worse) results in YouTube with the HTML5 beta enabled. That said, bug 626344 actually looks to be fixed, at least to the extent that YouTube HTML5 videos do (choppily) play.

Is this an issue with the latest version of Fennec? If so, please provide the build ID. Thanks.
No response from reporter for 8 months. This should be fixed, or at least significantly improved by the changes in bug 693131 and bug 693905. Please reopen or file a new bug if this is still a problem in the nightly builds.
