I have revereted to Firefox 3.6.13 which works OK. Reproducible: Always

(In reply to comment #1) > Does it work in the Firefox safemode ? > http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode I could not find a way to enter v4.0b10 in safe mode. Hence, I used Windows system restore to roll back a day to when 4b10 was working well; and everything is fine again using 4b10 alongside Xmarks 3.9.5 with perfect access to Google sites. So it now seems more likely that this was some kind of system corruption on my PC, rather than being a Firefox bug. Apologies for possible false alarm.
