Addon bar replaces statusbar, but this also removes resize grip.

Confirmed.
The window can still be resized thanks to the window manager, but on some window managers that requires precise pointer targeting.

AFAIK all the major linux desktop window managers have resize as part of the window border. Are you using a custom/nonstandard window manager?

I'm using Compiz 0.8.6 and tested it with Metacity.
Some themes are made with 1px thin border which is unusable without resize grip.

Looks like this wasn't handled in bug 489303 because of a performance problem.
