631829 - please provide option to move Delete to top of context menu

In the message list if I want to delete a message without opening it, there's a great deal of screen space to the bottom of the right-click context menu. I never use the display choice at the top, but double click. The way it is now it's almost quicker to double-click, open, then click the red X to delete. The most used context items should be at the top, or where the right-click occurred, and there's a good chance delete is the most used. Anyway, being able to arrange would be nice. Please consider. Why do you want to avoid having the message display in the preview pane? 
afaik there's no advantage to avoiding it, other than speed for large messages.

And if I remember correctly the delete item has been moved at least once to help prevent accidental usage, because it was actually too easy to hit it. (though I don't remember if that was seamonkey or thunderbird)

I suspect this change is unlikely to happen in the core product - certainly not as an option. You could probably change the order yourself via css or add-on.

And there is an alternative by using an access-key - mouse right+click to get context menu (right hand), then keyboard D (left hand)


keyboard alternatives (but they would display the message first)
* windows keyboard context menu key, then D
* shift+F10, then D
* add delete button to main toolbar (right+click top toolbar > customize)
* and of course delete key

Hi Wayne. I hate having the message display in the preview pane. I don't do it at work with Outlook, either. Just my preference. What I'm proposing is the ability to arrange context menu if people want to.

I tried putting delete in the main menu bar. Works OK and better than things were. But I'd still like to the the context menu configurable. If people configure the context menu themselves, hitting delete by accident is not an issue.

I agree with comment 1: I don't think the benefit of customizable menus is worth the added maintenance cost; besides, this sort of thing should be possible in an extension. I do think it would be worthwhile to reduce the number of items in the context menu, though. Currently, there are an awful lot, and it makes finding the item you want painful.
