Um... This would be "invalid". Please feel free to reopen if you can produce some information as to what should actually be happening here. Spec text, that sort of thing.

Some fool has redirected the original pages on mozilla.org to the devmo docs, which only describe what is actually implemented currently - the ones on mozilla.org did define <children type="inherited"/>. You'll have to play with CVS or the waybackmachine to get to them, I expect. (Not that I expect anyone will bother. Sigh.)

As best I can remember, it was an insertion marker which got replaced with the base binding's content - thus allowing you to keep the original binding's content when overriding it at the same time as adding some of your own content around it.
What original pages? There is no link to ANYTHING in this bug.

If someone mis-migrated stuff, please file bugs on devmo accordingly.
So, 25 Oct 2006 is the latest version of the page which the waybackmachine has which is still a spec.

This feature is therefore described at http://web.archive.org/web/20061025080349/http://www.mozilla.org/projects/xbl/xbl.html#children (and the linked section 4.4).

The DevMo documentation originally had the 'type' attribute, but it was removed on 21 March 2006 by Mw22 with no comment: http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/index.php?title=XBL:XBL_1.0_Reference:Elements&diff=28268&oldid=28267
How does this feature mesh with xbl2?

I believe this is exactly the same as the <inherited/> element in XBL2, from my reading of the W3C spec draft at http://www.w3.org/TR/xbl/#the-inherited.

(Assuming that in XBL1 the 'includes' attribute on <children/> doesn't have a defined meaning when 'type' is 'inherited'.)
