Hi there Just a short note to reconfirm, the Join Mozilla url will be: join.mozilla.org David, is there anything we need to do in terms of this? For the German version - would it be best to use the structure join.mozilla.org/de ? thanks jane
Thanks for checking about the URL. That's fine with me. To confirm, it sounded like you wanted a landing page at mozilla.org/join at one point but if this is living at join.mozilla.org I'm assuming we won't be adding anything at mozilla.org/join?
Actually David -- the bug was part a clarification question. We want to make sure that we fall in line with the URL naming system. If you and John prefer mozilla.org/join and mozilla.org/join/de that would be fine. Do let me know. thanks!
Jane, it's probably easier to discuss this in person. I'll be back in the office tomorrow and Thursday if you'd like to talk then. When we talked about this earlier, my understanding was that there was a desire to have a landing page at mozilla.org/join. That was a while ago though so it would be worthwhile to get caught up on the latest information and figure out what works best.
Can we talk on the phone today? I need to lock down content this morning for printed material for CeBIT that need the url. :)
Sure, we can talk today.
Hi there David and I just chatted and it seems as though we only need a marketing url, and the best suggested way is mozilla.org/join David and Ryan are exploring the possibilities of auto-detecting the browser language, which would eliminate the need for a mozilla.org/join/de or es etc. They will hopefully connect in the next few hours. I need to let the design folks know the final url for marketing purposes tomorrow before noon PT.
Will mozilla.org/join then be the landing page for the program signup, or will we be using something like mozilla.org/join/signup ? The reason I ask is there is additional content that relates to the Join Mozilla program that won't be on that page at all if this is the case (e.g., FAQ, store, content targeted for members -- the "members area"). Want to understand where it will go.
Re question in comment #7, because the sign-up form is embedded into the landing page that page needs to be hosted on the donate.mozilla.org payment processing site. Even if mozilla.org/join was a redirect we could still host other content at mozilla.org/join/whatever. This depends though on what will be on those pages -- if it's static content or a service, like a store experience. I'm a little out of the loop on all the pages, so I'm happy to look over anything that's available and help figure out where all the pieces should live and what the right URLs should be.
Hey all, did we resolve this? If not I have a suggestion. Let me know.
I believe we've resolved things and we can close this out (I'll let Ryan or Jane confirm though). We're moving forward with setting up a single URL at mozilla.org/join that can be used as the promotional URL for any locale. That is happening in bug 634709. Note that this is just for the main page. I'm not sure what the status is with deciding URLs for any other Join pages. Happy to help with that as needed.
We did confirm mozilla.org/join as the main url.
So is there anything else to do in this bug?
I guess the last thing, we can do here is close out the remaining url structure? e.g. for the FAQ page it will be: mozilla.org/join/faq
Based on our call today there are two pages (FAQ and thanks) and then these will be localized. I'd suggest: FAQ: mozilla.org/join/faq.en.html mozilla.org/join/faq.de.html etc. Thanks: mozilla.org/join/thanks.en.html mozilla.org/join/thanks.de.html etc. We don't have the l10n system in place yet to have the same localized URLs as mozilla.com and this follows the existing l10n scheme for other localized pages on the site.
thanks David -- that all sounds great to me. Jane
Great. I think we can close this now. Feel free to reopen as needed.
